One Stop Record Shop Premiere: “Port Cities Exclusively Unveil Story Behind New Material”

By Danielle De Wolfe, One Stop Record Shop

Today’s exclusive sees Nova Scotia meet Nashville, as the echoing tones of Port Cities glide through our speakers.

It’s safe to say their new track “Where Have You Been” is a sublime dose of folk-meets-country inspired indie. Yup, it’s a mouthful and a half, smothered with indulgent string sections and dark and somewhat harrowing undertones.

It’s a contemplative cut, one that you can now discover the backstory to as the band divulge all. Tracking the songwriting process and the story behind the new material, the below video is not to be missed.

Be sure to check out the track below and let us know your thoughts!

Blending the sounds of Nashville with their Nova Scotian roots, trio Port Cities have previously received acclaim from Canadian music site Exclaim! and are now ready to charm the ears of UK listeners with their latest single.

‘Where Have You Been?’ blends the impassioned, silky smooth vocals of Breagh MacKinnon with lilting, folk-inspired melodies and luscious harmonies, resulting in an utterly charming slice of Americana-tinged pop. Oozing a sweeping, emotion-strewn power, it’s an alluring, musically rich ballad; a real treat for the ears.

Of the track, the band explain:

“One thing we all seem to connect with lyrically is showing a less-than-perfect idea of love, and not being scared to talk about how everything is not great, or call out a lot of what normal, traditional love songs would be about.”

Listen to ‘Where Have You Been?’, for the first time via Gigslutz here.

Double A Side ‘Where Have You Been?’/’In The Dark’ is out 22 September. And you can catch Port Cities live at The Slaughtered Lamb, London on 25 September.
